Mom Style Monday: Chic Kiddie Quarters

Nearly a year after having my bundle of joy and moving into a new home in the same week, I am finally tackling the more permanent decoration of my daughter's room. Having some insight into her budding personality has helped drive some of my aesthetic decisions, and there are still some things that I need to convince my husband are absolutely necessary before it is complete. :) Here are some of the key elements and a few that are in the running. I still have a couple things that are up in the air, including book storage, toy storage, and possibly a daybed. Keep in mind I believe kids deserve the experience of a beautiful space they can grow with, and once her room is done I don't plan to make any major changes for awhile. Let me know what you think and please share any suggestions for the up-in-the-air items.

I waited what seemed an eternity to get this bed in the US. It is the Ubabub Nifty Clear crib. I have it. I love it, and it converts to a toddler bed. 

Two walls will be sheathed in Hermes Herringbone wallpaper in grege.

The other walls have been painted in Home Decorators Collection by Behr's Grey Mist.

This is similar to the geometric wool rug that I found for the room. These elements make a calm neutral base.

Pindler & Pindler's Kanpur in apricot will cover the windows and decorative pillows.

Galbraith & Paul's Birch fabric in chocolate to upholster a kid sized rocking armchair and a few decorative pillows.

Bertoia's Bird chair and ottoman for Mommy to lounge in while reading to the baby. :) 

Any of these Sean Woolsey side tables would work in the room.

This vintage dresser would make an elegant storage statement for years to come.

The piece de resistance.... Avram Rusu Studio's glass Confetti pendant would make an awesome exclamation point in the room. Still working on the hubby to commission this work.

We have some amazing art pieces and a collection of banks for the room as well. Pictures of the process and finished product will be posted in the coming weeks.

Carpet Diem

They say if you chase two rabbits, they both get away, but as an artist, there is a particular discomfort in being confined. Being singly labeled a wardrobe stylist or interior designer never quite fit into my desire to work in multiple disciplines...nor did it reflect my ability, education or body of work. Succumbing to one label also seemed to limit the potential of my business, which contradicted the ideas so thoroughly instilled by business school. With the hope of encouraging professional cross pollination, we will regularly salute designers that dare to take a leap of faith into uncharted territory.

So, as I observe the market, it is no surprise that an increasing number of companies are looking to crossover into new areas. The skills required to be exceptional in fashion design don't always translate to home furnishings, but these houses have translated their unique aesthetic to home furnishings, particularly luxurious carpets, wonderfully. Here's to seizing a sizable opportunity and building a solid (though soft) foundation in a new industry!
